Tracking the Money

Treasury maintains a listing of all transactions made under TARP at www.financialstability.gov. Most are transactions under the Capital Purchase Program; however, Treasury also details the remainder of actions under TARP under "Additional Transactions."

How Financial Institutions are Using TARP Funds

The Panel frequently poses this question to Treasury. They have responded that, while it is difficult to track where individual dollars flow through a complex financial institution like a bank, it is working with banking regulators to develop appropriate measurements that will allow it to determine if the TARP is having its desired effect.

In the regular January oversight report, Accountability for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the Panel emphasized that it is possible for the institutions to provide an accounting of where dollars flowed within their organizations and when they first left those organizations through loans, dividend repayments, executive compensation, and purchase of other assets.
